Odd Duck Handmade Bazaar and Indie Craft Fair is moving to a new location! November 2nd, 2011 • 2nd ANNUAL FORT LAUDERDALE DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATION

• WHAT: Fort Lauderdale Day of the Dead Celebration & Skeleton Processional
• WHEN: Wednesday, November 2, 2011: 6 PM – 11 PM

(Processional line up begins at 5:45 PM at Nova Southeastern Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art. Participants welcome to enjoy the museum from 4 PM – 6 PM)

• WHERE: FAT Village ARTS District – (Flagler Arts and Theatre Village) DOTD Celebration Offices: 504 NW 1st Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
• HOW MUCH: Main event is free and open to the general public, most associated events are also free, see specific events for details.

The border between Fort Lauderdale and Mictlán, the Aztec land of the dead, will be thin this November 2^nd as revelers remember and honor their deceased at the 2nd Annual Day of the Dead Festival. Starting at 6 pm, don your skeletal attire and join the sidewalk processional at the Nova Southeastern Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art. Giant puppets will lead the processional to the FAT Village ARTS district for a night filled with a art, craft, music, theater, food and more!
The brainchild of founder of FAT Village ARTS District Doug McCraw and Artist & Puppet Master Jim Hammond, this event captures the ambiance of one of Mexico’s finest traditions. Day of the Dead is a time to celebrate life and honor the dead, just as the bright flowers and skeletons counterbalance the trimmings.
Vibrant Day of the Dead arts and crafts will permeate the atmosphere. Participating galleries and the “Muertos Exhibition” will exhibit fine and graffiti art installations. Additionally, you will find a score of hand-made indie crafters proffering souvenirs and keepsakes in the realm of the “Craft Crypt”.
Also throughout the art spaces will be an exhibit of Ofrendas, traditional and non-traditional altars, built by volunteers to honor the deceased. These colorful tributes will astound viewers with their layers of sugar skulls, marigolds, memorabilia, portraits, calaveras and catrinas.
Enjoy the entertainment of live bands and funky theatrical productions, then purchase tasty treats from the Mexican food trucks. Don’t forget to bring your camera for delightful pictures with the outlandish puppets and costumed characters!
Needing assistance with your own costumes and masks? Free giant skeleton puppet and mask workshops are planned for October 15, 22 and 29 from 1-5 pm at Puppet Network Studio, 504 NW 1st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Limited space so RSVP Puppet Network for details
To join the Skeleton Processional hosted by the Puppet Guild of South Florida, please dress as a skeleton and converge upon the Museum of Art, One East Las Olas Boulevard before 5:45pm in the lobby. At 6 pm, the Processional will move north on Andrews Avenue to NW 5th Street where it will reach the heart of FAT Village. There are also be costume prizes for best Day of the Dead creations.
Funding for this project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Division. Additional funding has been provided by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority, the Museum of Art and the Artists, Studios, Galleries and Businesses of FAT Village ARTS District.

But sad truth is that in the craft show business, jewelry is swamped.  Hence competition when applying for craft shows.  So I wanted to make stuff that there wasnt a lot of. Trash 2 Treasure

Ok so I took a nap and a long shower. Even got some food in my belly. I feel ready. Ready for what? Well for TRASH TO TREASURE  !!! Its this cool place that for a small membership fee (they have non membership daily fee too) you get your choice of goods from the place. Saving it from the landfill it goes here. Goods like beautiful glass tile, sewing patterns, school & art supplies, glass jars, fabric..... The list can go on and on. Its the perfect place to get inspired to make stuff out of what they have. Today my "reason" for going is to get materials to build a kitty condo. But I am sure I will get much more. Love this place!! If you are local you should check it out!!

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill... Barefoot... BOTH ways Yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that . . . I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy!  I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet.  If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!
There was no email!!  We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there!  Stamps were 10 cents!
Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us.  As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!
There were no MP3' s or Napsters!  If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!  There were no CD players!  We had tape decks in our car.  We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and the tape would come undone..  Cause - that's how we rolled, dig?
We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting!  If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!
There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a damn call or receive one You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOD !!!  Think of the horror..  And then there's TEXTING....  Yeah, right.  You kids have no idea how annoying you are.

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!  When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was!  It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!!  You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics!  We had the Atari 2600!  With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'.  Your guy was a little square!  You actually had to use your imagination!!  And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen.. Forever!  And you could never win.  The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died!  Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!  You were screwed when it came to channel surfing!  You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!  NO REMOTES!!!
There was no Cartoon Network either!  You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning.  Do you hear what I'm saying?  We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves.  If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
That's exactly what I'm talking about!  You kids today have got it too easy.  You're spoiled.  You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Secret Santa craft swap stuff

So I am doing a really cool show this weekend. Indie Craft Bazaar "Spring Fling" I just love doing this show. One special thing that Amanda (the one in charge of this show) does is a gift/goods swap. Kinda like secret Santa. I love this. You never know what you will get but odds are that with the participants involved it will be something pretty cool. You get to fill out what you like, dont like, food faves & so on. This helps people out with what you are interested in. I wrote that I liked gummy bears and skulls. So I got a big box of gummy bears & a cool little tank top with a kitty crossbones on it. This time I got someone that I kinda know & am excited to make her a special something, something.

1st "blog" post in a long time.......

I use to post my daily dealing on Myspace way back in the day. Now I spend most my time on Facebook. But I missed the whole option to rant. I dont like doing "notes". Thats one of the things I dont like Facebook.So that is why I am here. Doing this. Mostly for my own entertainment. we have been here 2000 /2004 loved it so much booked our wed here the day was perfect venue reception lovely no attention to detail spared wed coordinator melissa fab on 16/17/18th oct horror convention descended on hotel on a massive scale overtaking every inch of grounds scary people in axe bloodied costumes horrible for young children if hotel had designated an area it would not have been so bad hotel were oblivious to complaints as possibly making too much money no where to park in day all their cars bikes up on grass verges even we circled hotel 3 times to no avail at night rolloway cooler bags came to family east pool full of booze nowhere for us to sit for a quiet drink relaxed age , unless you are from uk aged 24 on honeymoon not with horror show .people dossing around pool scanty dress from event following morning at 7am staff trying to tidy up there mess,also beware its 9/10/11 oct 09 and bigger than ever on internet site freakfest,. bathrooms corridors rooms need refurb grounds lovely pool area restaurants great at hotel.they expect you to carry passport they dont take drive licence from uk but other hotels on i drive do happilyaccept it blocks 8/9/10/nicest blocks to stay stay here except for these dates if you dont like hundreds of people overcrowding your holiday thankfully it was not on my wed day my room did not have a safe either.
